Why?

To provide a community that reminds us of our authentic shine

I reclaimed my shimmer recently through finding community where I can be myself and hobbies that allow me to feel the feelings I hid. It began with leaving a toxic environment and getting sober. This journey has inspired me to encourage folks to find their own path with the confidence and inspiration to show it.

Here are the intentions behind Collective Connecting:

  • equitable access to support children, teens, and young adults to connect with peers (in different groups)

  • allowing access to a safe space with support around expressing needs, concerns, and feelings

  • help youth to develop confidence and accept themselves

  • practice in engaging with peers in different situations

  • reminders that it is okay to be goofy in some situations

  • practice using different skills in every day life (grounding, regulating, affirming self)

  • learning through creating with intention, playing games, and interacting with others

  • having a secure community to support mental health stressors as they come up

Cherished aspirations, hopes, wishes for 4C:

  1. Realizations that being present in the day to day and paying attention can lead to inspiration for the creative process

  2. It’s okay to ask questions with the intent of learning and processing growth

  3. Reminders that it is important to have an end goal in mind but it is important to remind oneself that getting through the process has to be done first— appreciate the product but reflect on the process

  4. Foster an acknowledgement of hardship while allowing oneself to move forward and affirm one’s resilience

  5. Encourage validation of emotions and learn different ways to react

  6. Understanding how one’s nature can influence reception of nurture

  7. Inspire folks to accept their awkwardness, run with it, and thrive because of it

Resilience is adversity reframed.”

AND

“When a person has a reaction to something in their environment, there’s a 90-second chemical process that happens in the body; after that, any remaining emotional response is just the person choosing to stay in that emotional loop.”
- Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor (Harvard Brain Scientist)

“Emotions are a natural reaction so validate them! Then reframe the situation to get through it and remind yourself of your resilience.”
- Renee Robles, LCSW
